Training, training, training….
Training a Double Back Tuck In Gymnastics
I am really happy with the progress that my gymnasts have bee showing lately. Nevertheless, coaching is not always happiness. There good times, when the kids are able to do everything and there are frustrating times when the kids can do nothing
. I believe that everything goes into cycles. Sometimes they are so good that they learn the skills very fast and, on the other hand, they are so bad that they cannot do anything; not even a move that they have been doing it for a good time.
It’s important, nevertheless, that the Time vs Improvement curve has a positive slope. In other words, it is important that the kids are learning and that the goals set for the year are being fulfilled.
One good goal for this year, for the kids under my supervision, was that they have to be doing double back tuck with my help by the end of December. I think we had fulfilled this goal. They are now throwing double back tucks to the pit. This help them to gather the experience needed in this skill. So in the future, perhaps at the end of next year, they can do it on the floor.
Here I’m attaching a video of the Lakeshore Gymnastics Level 6 Boy’s training double back tucks and also some work on the P-bars and on the rings.
Enjoy it

The Flu and Gymnastics

Lakeshore Gymnastics - Level 6 Team
The Flu and Gymnastics
The flu virus that has been flying around Cleveland during these days took a big toll on the gymnastics training. This past Saturday I had just two gymnasts training. The other 4 were at home sick. Sunday, I got sick by this virus and I have not been able to go the gym to coach. Today, Wednesday is not different; I’m still sick and trying to get rid of this virus, consequently today is another day that the team is not training normally.
Lakeshore Gymnastics has been attacked by this virus. Therefore, several of the gym coaches have not been able to coach their classes.
I hope all my gymnast are getting better and hope they are recovering in 100% their energies, so we can enjoy the gymnastics training this Saturday.
I hope everybody is feeling better now

Gymnastics – Saturday, May 2nd Practice
Team and the discipline
- The members of the team need to be more discipline; in general, the team should obey the directions of the coach at all the times. Work and fulfill the assignments given to you without losing time talking with your peers or playing. If we are working on the P-bars and the mushroom, there should be nobody working on the cables or walking in other areas of the gym.
- The level 5 team members are the example for the younger gymnast of Lakeshore, so you should demonstrate discipline, friendship and hard work
- All of you should be respectful to your peers, coaches, and all the members of the gym.
- If you do not follow the rules of the gym, the gym is a dangerous place. A gymnast cannot be performing new skills without a coach. It’s prohibited to play or run without sense of location in the gym because you could collide with other gymnast when performing an exercise.
Saturday’s Practice
- Wear tennis shoes, so we can run for 20-30 minutes outside if the weather is good.
- Everybody should have the wrist bands, so we can work on the giants
- Everybody should have their grips stored in the plastic box located by the high bar.
- We’ll be working on the level 5 routines to prepare for the May 16th competition
- We’ll be practicing some of the new skills
Level 6
- We are checking the gymnast, who will be passing to level 6. I’ll post a list of basic skills for that level in all the events.
See you on Saturday at 11:00 am and don’t be late.

Lakeshore Gymnastics – Notes for the May 7th practice
Notes from the coach and May 7th Practice
We had a very good practice on Tuesday. Every
body was concentrated and working hard on the level 5 routines. We need to clean up the routines on the pommel, in which we still have some problems. I’m happy with the advances that you are doing.
Thursday, May 7th will be working on the vault, p-bars and the high bar. We’ll warm up for 5 minutes, at each event, and perform 3 routines at each event; the last routine will be judged.

Keep the hard work with your mind on the competition of May 16th.
Notes for after the Meet of May 16th

- We’ll be practicing for the gym presentation, which is on the first week of June.
- We’ll start working on the Level 6 elements and also concentrate on advanced gymnastic elements, such as: timings for double back tuck and a full twist.

Team Meet, News and Exhibition

Lakeshore Gymnastics Boy's Team
Gymnastics Boy’s Team – Meet, News and Exhibition
The Lakeshore Gymnastics boy’s level 5 team has two commitments for the month of May and June. The team will be competing on May 16th on the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Gymnastics and on June 1st to the 6th the team will be doing exhibitions for the parents and friends of the kids that attend Lakeshore Gymnastics.
The team has been working hard for the AAU meet; the members of the team want to improve on their score and advance on their positions on the all-around (last AAU competition, the team member’s position 1st, 2nd, 8th, 13th and 14th place on the all-around). Further, this meet is important because this will be the last meet that the team will be competing as level 5. Indeed, Michel, Stephan, Dima, Jacob and Brett will become level 6 gymnasts after the May 16th meet. Therefore, the team will work on the gymnastics skills and routines pertinent to level 6 starting on May 19th.
For the exhibition at Lakeshore Gymnastics, the team will be performing on the floor and perhaps on the mushroom and the vault. This exhibition helps to incentive the new gymnasts of Lakeshore to become more serious about the gymnastics training and also attract more kids to the gym.
Good luck on the competition and exhibition, on which we’ll take a lot of pictures and videos to post them in this blog.

Hello Champions!!!!
As of now, the May 16th competition has been cancelled. Sally will give us more info about the status of the competion during this coming week.
Coach Italo Notes – Monday May 11, 09

Gymnastics is power!!!
Hello Team!!!
Tomorrow, Tuesday May 12, 09, we will start working on the Level 6 gymnastics skills. The following general notes are important for Level 6:
- Everybody must to start using grips on the high bar and on the rings. The grips are important since we will start working on the giants (forward and backward giants).
- You need to condition at home on the days that you don’t come to the gym (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). At least 200 V-ups and 200 push-ups, three times of 1 minute handstands against a wall.
Brett home work:
- Brett needs to work on his circles on the mushroom. So, he has to fulfill 100 circles at home every day.
- We need to make the grip holes bigger, so he can start working with his grips.
Michel and Stephan:
- Try to get ring grips as soon as you can. Check them on this web: www.ten-0.com
- Stephan should get #2 grips and Michel # 1 grips
Jacob:
- You have had your grips for months already and you have not used them. Since tomorrow you will be using them all the time. Bring your wrist bands so you can use you grips.
Dima:
- I hope you found your wrist bands.

On the Move to the new Gym

Gymnastics requires time, a lot of effort and discipline
On the move
Lakeshore Gymnastics Gym has been on the move to the new place, where the gym is to be functioning. It’s amazing to see the old place empty; you can even hear your eco when you talk. Just a week ago, the gym was complete; I even have my last workout in the old gym last Monday. But now, it is just an empty warehouse.
The new place is awesome. The walls have nice colors, the light system is much better; it seems that the place is more alive. The gym in general is much more spacious; there is a section for the kids that are just learning gymnastics, there is a space for the women’s team, there is a space for the boy’s team, there is a space for the cheerleader team and also there are studios for the dancers. The dance studios are much better, they have nice windows and they are spacious. Of course, the new pit is very nice. This pit will help the gymnasts to try more difficult exercises.
This weekend was the biggest moving effort. Some parents, the coaches, and friends came to help passing the equipment to the new gym. Well, so far, the floors have been installed but it is still a lot of things to do such as: installing the beams, the uneven bars, high bar, the pommes, p-bars, etc. Yesterday, I helped installing the new floor, which has a section to tumble to the pit. This is going to be very good to teach nice skills in the floor.
This week the new gym will take shape, Sally and Tom, the owners have been bending over backwards to have the gym ready. It’s unbelievable how much work and effort they have put in this project. Congratulations Tom and Sally and thanks for giving us this new gym!!!!!
